Introducing Lie + Loft's inaugural "Home on the Range" campout in the North Carolina Sandhills

Last year during Portland to Pebble, the best days + nights came when we got to camp on the golf course. As the sun went down and the stars came out, Pete and I would set up our tents and recap the golf played that day, reminiscing on the good shots + laughing at the duffs over an IPA.
We typically biked 50 miles and walked 9 or 18 holes — which meant deep, restful sleep. Before you knew it, the sun was popping its head over the horizon, birds were chirping, and you were being serenaded to the sound of morning mowers humming.
The course was home and I was hooked.
I thought, everyone needs to experience camping on a golf course. So, we’re giving it a shot with “Home on the Range.” Three days, two nights, and one heck of a golf adventure, camping out on the driving range at Tobacco Road Golf Club in Sanford, North Carolina.
The weekend is designed to be inclusive for all who want to attend. You do not need to be an avid camper or scratch golfer. If you’ve never camped, this is your chance to do so with a group + combine it with golf. We can help figure out what gear you’ll need. The goal of this weekend: play a lot of golf with homies (old and new, good and bad) and sleep under the stars.

Friday, May 11
2 pm: Check-In // set up your tent/camping apparatus, get registered for the weekend
2:30 pm: First Round // Tee times (18 hole scramble format, warm the golf muscles up for the weekend)
7 pm: Dinner on the Range
9 pm: Night Golf festivities (Lit Up Putting course, Closest to the Pin, Home Run Derby)
Saturday, May 12
8:30 am: Shotgun start, 18 holes (format TBD)
1 pm: Lunch
Afternoon: Flexible, you can go back out for 9+ holes, hang out on the range watching The Players in the Media Tent, hit up the arts + crafts tent for some DIY Mother’s Day gifts, make smores, or take a nap.
6 pm: Dinner
8 pm: Night Golf Championships
Sunday, May 13
8 am: Breakfast / Awards on the Range
9:30: 18 hole shotgun // Some people are needing to bounce do to Mother’s Day – this round is optional.
1 pm: Check-out
General Rules // “Leave No Trace.” We’re going to have a good time. However, we want Tobacco Road to have us back, as well as this become a thing at other golf courses. Treat the grounds like it is your home, be responsible in your waste, respect the property, and leave it like you found it.
Food // Treat this like you would a normal camping weekend. Bring your own essentials, water, etc. We hope to be able to provide food, although that is dependent on participation for this first go around. We will have portable stove tops.
Showers // There are no shower facilities by Tobacco Road available. We will have a few portable camping showers and designated shower areas. We encourage you bring portable showers if you have them. We will be smelling in this together.
Bathrooms // There will be port-o-potties (is that how you spell it?) on property.
Walking // We won’t be taking carts while golfing – this will be one of the best scenic golf hikes you’ve ever done. Tobacco Road is a very walkable course — come ready to work those legs out.
Travel / Communication // Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is the closest airport, 45 minutes away. For participants, we’re launching a Slack channel to communicate about transportation, who can bring what, what types of formats we want to play, and general banter building up to the weekend.
Rain Checks // There will be no refunds due to weather. We’re praying for North Carolina sunshine, but a lil rain never hurt anybody.
