SUNSET GOLFING AT OREGON'S TOKATEE GOLF CLUB

In the fourth installment of our Oregon Trail series, we revisited a nostalgic childhood favorite and basked in the rugged beauty of the Willamette National Forest.

It’s been pretty crazy thinking back on this trip and thinking about all that Luke and I did, the places we visited, the things we saw — and then thinking about how it all took place in a very short amount of time. In one day we saw the Bald Eagle at the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge, Crater Lake, and then headed to play and stay at Tokatee Golf Club

Tokatee is a golf course nestled in the Willamette National Forest, about 45 minutes east of Eugene, Oregon. It’s a golf course that is near and dear to my heart due to spending several days a summer growing up making the trek to play this coniferous track. Needless to say, I was beyond stoked to show Luke this golf course. Not only because it is special to me, but because I knew it would soon to be special to him as well. You can check out some Lie + Loft golf course maps of it here and here

Looking south-- still some snow in the hills.
Looking east at the Three Sisters.
I lost a bet.
...and this was my punishment.
The first three holes at Tokatee provide stunning views of the hills it sits between.
Just couldn't get enough of thse hillside backdrop shots.
"I want a cheeseburger. I want a milkshake. I want potato chips-- you'll get nothing and like it!"
Always gotta snag a shadow pic.

We made our way our way around Tokatee as the sun began to quickly fall. It was perfect really: whenever I look back at my childhood of playing golf here, it’s always the evening rounds I remember most; this round will fit in very nicely right next to those.

With both of us feeling a little delirious from the day, we grabbed some food nearby at a pub and only had to go about another mile back up the highway to find our campground. We showed up without a reservation but the park managers were extremely kind and welcoming and provided us a few different open options for the night. After we got settled, we built a fire and enjoyed a conversation while soaking in our last night on our Oregon Trail.

The next morning we awoke to sun rays and brisk mountain air. We both agreed that it had been the best night of sleep either of us had gotten on the trip. Coffee and our famous breakfast hash were in store to fuel our bodies for what would be our final day on the road.  // #golfishome
