A WEST COAST ROAD TRIP // REDWOODS + BAY AREA

LOG ENTRY BY: KENDRA LITTLE

The road trip begins!

I’d been trying to get Hannah on a road trip down to the Redwoods for at least 2 years. My first trip down to the majestic forest was in 2020, and it genuinely changed my life. If you’ve had the privilege to visit as well, you know what I’m talking about. So I used my birthday as an excuse to finally get us down the road to the land of giants, with a final destination of San Francisco/Oakland.

What followed was a wonderful road trip for 5 days through some of the most beautiful areas in the world, and one of the most diverse and unique cities around. Both of these were first time visits for Hannah, which made it all the more special. We unfortunately weren’t able to squeeze much golf in (aside from a campground makeshift putt-putt hole), but I suppose you have to leave room for other things to do when you inevitably come back, right?

I hope you’re able to enjoy the trip through the following images, and perhaps be the spark that ignites your desire to visit this coveted area sometime soon, too.

Hannah’s first time– had to document!
Also *had* to stop here for a photo.
You can only explain in so many words to someone how big the Redwoods are– but they just have to see them in person to understand.
A successful camp set up on Day 1!
Evening stroll on this sleepy road to the south of our campground.
Gentle reminders.
When life gives you lemons…
You make a makeshift putting green.

Let’s face it. You have A LOT of time on your hands when you’re camping. Especially when the nearby trails don’t allow dogs. Thankfully, my weird brain is usually always looking for golf holes/greens in the most obscure places. Our campsite happened to be a perfect spot to make a putting green. Firm, fast, and surprisingly smooth!

I even had time to document the experience– check it out below.

Better than most…

Hannah up early making me…
…Birthday pancakes!
One last walk through these majestic giants.
We headed south until we found another behemoth.
Another bucket list item checked off for Hannah.

The Bay Bridge. It is also massive.
Our favorite ‘hood in SF ended up being here: Hayes Valley
Oakland | Cathedral Building
Steph Curry mural — need to get out on the links with him.
Had to stop in at my favorite SF coffee shop; Sight Glass
Two Coffee’s One Day? Yup.
Heading out of town back to Oregon I saw this. I think it’s tremendous advice.

After what was an incredibly enjoyable + memorable trip, we squeezed back into the car and headed North back to Oregon. But it wasn’t over yet. It’s not every day I find myself down in Northern California, and somehow to this day I had yet to visit or play historic Northwood Golf Course. So we made a slight detour.

I must admit, this is a little bit of a tease (not just for you, but for me as well!) because the above photo is the only one I was able to capture. I had hoped to get on and play but it wasn’t meant to be on the day. Still, even getting to visit and see the property for myself is something I won’t forget and will only serve is further motivation to get back down there to see it up. Maybe I’ll get Luke to meet me out there– stay tuned on that.

From Northwood, Hannah and I made our way through wine country and back up to the 5 to southern Oregon, where we enjoyed one last night of the road trip reminiscing on what will always be a special time spent together in one of the most beautiful regions on the planet.
